Tales from Margaritaville

( 20 )

Overview

Margaritaville may not appear on a map, but it does exist—at least in the brilliantly creative, sometimes slightly skewed imagination of Jimmy Buffett. Tales from Margaritaville is a collection of short stories (some purely fiction, some based in truth) so vividly packed with restless dreamers, wild wanderers, and pure gypsy souls that just reading it is a wild adventure.

Travel along with a cowboy named Tully Mars, as he heads from Heartache, Wyoming, to Graceland, and relive the autobiographical odyssey of a third-generation sailor and first-rate musical outlaw. With unforgettable stories that present the true roamer's twin loves—the sea and the road—Tales from Margaritaville is one "smooth sailing book of infinite imagination" (Chicago Sun-Times).

Meet the Author

Singer/songwriter/author Jimmy Buffett has become a legend of popular culture as the composer of such classic songs as "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise." He has recorded more than thirty albums, most of which have gone gold, platinum, or multiplatinum, and his sold-out concert tours are an annual rite of summer for his fans. In addition to his musical credits, Buffett is also one of only six authors who have had number-one New York Times bestsellers in both fiction (Where Is Joe Merchant?) and nonfiction (A Pirate Looks at Fifty).

    quick read

This will not be the best work of fiction you have ever read, but it is still quite fun and a great way to get lost in Margaritaville (a place many of us actually hope exists in some remote corner of the planet). It is great for a vacation or just as a weekend read to escape the winter blues for a short time. If you are Buffett fan, you will enjoy seeing some of his songs come to life and wonder just how much of this is actually fiction. This book may be best enjoyed with a margarita and a great imagination.

    If you can read...

This is a great read, by Buffett. I read this after his biography, and it matched up perfectly, well, with his attitude. These short stories keep you going from one chapter to the next. Get it, read it, live it.

Great For the Beach or Anywhere Else

This book is the best book of short stories I've ever read. Even though I live in California, it's as though I was right there in every story, A great read.

    'Wasting away again in Margaritaville.'

As a person who grew up and still lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, this book hits close to home. Jimmy talks about places that I know well. This is what the 'Real' Gulf Coast is like. This is an outstanding book of short stories. It will grip you from start to finish.

    forget music

Jimmy Buffett is an unbelievable author. I was skeptic when I was given this book. I thought of Buffett as a singer and songwriter, not author. This book is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Buffett music.
