For those of us who love the Judge Dee series, this is both familiar and a bit more exotic than the original. The descriptions of the courtroom (while probably more authentic than the original) are a bit more heavy-handed than expected by a westerner. This actually adds to the sense of history. I look forward to meeting Judge Dee in many more new cases.

I loved the original books by Van Gulick and just finished reading this one. The tales are very lively and witty and give a lovely feel of Judge Dee's life and times. I was actually keenly disappointed when I suddenly came to the end. I want more!

This book continues a great tradition created by Robert van Gulick with over 15 best sellers of his day. All fans of old Judge Dee stories will love to read this new one. The cover art looks great too, and I enjoyed reading the book.
