"Tales of Two Forefathers" is an oral history of the experiences of two Black men who grew up in the segregated Jim Crow South. It is an important text in the landscape of oral history because it recounts and validates the life stories of two African American men from two different generations of the same family. Author Sanaa J. Talibah has accomplished something that all young people should consider: capturing on tape the stories of our foremothers and foremothers who did not have a voice during the time they grew up. "Tales of Two Forefathers" gives voice to two men in Ms. Talibah's family who might never have had an opportunity to tell their story had she not taken the time to listen and record them. "Tales of Two Forefathers" is a call to all young people to listen to the stories of their foremothers and forefathers, so that they might walk a less treacherous path than those who came before them. Was this review helpful?
