Talking Back to Ritalin: What Doctors Aren't Telling You about Stimulants for Children

Overview

In the book that rocked school nurse offices nationwide, Peter Breggin called the bluff on child stimulants, the companies that produce them, and the educators who prescribe them. Talking Back To Ritalin is one of the few resources available to parents who are intuitively uncomfortable with drugging their children. Now, in an updated paperback edition, Dr. Breggin has gathered new evidence of the harm Ritalin is wreaking on young minds. For instance, since the publication of Talking Back To Ritalin in 1998:* The ...

For instance, since the publication of Talking Back To Ritalin in 1998:* The Journal Of The American Medical Association has published aneditorial criticism of drugs like Ritalin that are prescribed to children. The report and an accompanying editorial warned that those drugs have an impact on the very neurotransmitters that govern brain development; * A Journal Of The American Medical Association report linked use of a drug frequently prescribed to balance Ritalin’s effects, Clonidine, to heart attacks; * A study from the University of California found an increased rate of cocaine addiction in young adults who had been prescribed Ritalin as children.

The FDA and drug companies haven’t told the public everything they know about these dangers to children, but in this updated edition of Talking Back To Ritalin, Dr. Breggin continues to reveal research about the ADHD drug that would otherwise be obscured from public view. In accessible language designed for parents, teachers and doctors, Talking Back To Ritalin, Updated challenges the diagnosis of "ADHD" and outlines the alternatives to drugs for the nation’s children.

"...explains how Ritalin and other drug treatments for ADHD affect a child's brain and provides information on long-term effects, as well."

Finally, the Documented Facts...and Alternative Solutions

Thank you to Dr. Breggin. This book is full of documented facts along with all the information you need to research further. It is obvious that the book is written with the total concern for the child(ren) and is solution oriented. If you have seen the negative effects of methylphenidate(Ritalin), amphetamines and methamphetamines(=to the street version, crank), all used to treat ADD and ADHD, you'll find out what's been happening. You will also see why the doctor doesn't have the full story, and sad but true, you'll see what world pharmeceutical companies are willing to put you and your children within to gain a buck. I read this book because I am studying the conduct of the pharmaceutical industry. Amazingly, it comfirmed information I have been collecting for about seven years and it applied to multiple people in my immediate life. It was a continued exposure of a crooked industry...and our children are paying the price now. We will all pay if this addictive treatment is not stopped.
