She was really insecure and shy. After her sister was born, her parents couldn't stop criticizing and belittling her all the while praising her little sister. As a result, she developed a severe stutter whenever she talked to anyone other than her best friend or the day care children she taught. She was so embarrassed by it and insecure, she was afraid to go places where there was a lot of people or talk to people she didn't know well. The only time she could overcome her stutter was when she hid behind the desk and gave the kids a puppet show.
He was a ventriloquist who also ran his own shop making, fixing, and selling ventriloquist dummies and using his talents to serve the Lord. But he was lonely and wanted a wife amd family. However the wife he envisioned would be someone who would love ventriloquism and want to perform side by side with him. But the girl he falls for is extremely shy and had terrible stutter. At first he only wanted to help her overcome her shyness, but he began to fall for her and push her to become te type of woman he someday wished to marry.
Is he wrong to force her to change ? Will she ever be able to overcome her shyness enough to serve the Lord? Or will all those old insecurities rob her of true love?
I liked this book because I could identify with the woman in the story. I am incredibly shy as well and have struggled for years to overcome it. It really bugged me that people kept pushing her to change. While I know they meant well, it only added more stress and pressure. Ultimately, only God can help a person to change like that.
Overall, this was a good story with a great message.
