Talking Timbuktu

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Ron Wynn
Guitarist Ali Farka Touré has repeatedly bridged the gap between traditional African and contemporary American vernacular music, and this release continues that tradition. Talking Timbuktu features him singing in 11 languages and playing acoustic and electric guitar, six-string banjo, njarka, and percussion, while teaming smartly with an all-star cast that includes superstar fusion bassist John Patitucci, session drummer Jim Keltner, longtime roots music great Ry Cooder who doubled as producer, venerable guitarist Gatemouth Brown, and such African percussionists and musicians as Hamma Sankare on calabash and Oumar Touré on congas.

The king of Malian Blues is dead

Sadly this incredible African musician has passed to cancer, yet his music is still here and so available. This album won the Grammy and it is the classic connection between Mali and the Mississippi Delta blues. Listen to Amandrai and you will see what I mean. This is a must cd for any collection blues or otherwise. This is Ry Cooder's best album as well. Do not hesitate, buy this.

Like wise. I also heard it while listing to Unfaithful. Great music. Was suprised it wasn't on the sound tract. Reminds me of the Jukes of Mississippi!!

    Absolutely Fantastic

I just love to listen to this CD over and over again. I bought this CD after I heard Ai Du watching UNFAITHFUl. I bought the Soundtrack and I loved it but it did not include Ai Du. So I did a little research and found the Artists and the DR. I recommend it.
