    Talks With God

Ramana Maharshi, originally made known to the West by Dr Paul Brunton's book 'A Search in Secret India', is the best known contemporary exponent of Shankara's 'Philosophy' of non-dualism. This book is the finest record available of his talks with devotees, disciples and seekers from all over the world, recorded in diaries by Dr. T.M.P. Mahadevan over a four year period, from 1935 to 1939, at the foot of Mt Arunachala, Tamil Nadu, India, where Ramanasramam, his Ashram, still stands today. ' You are the Self' he tells us, 'Nothing but the Self. Anything else is imagination, so BE the Self here and now. There is no need to run off to a forest or shut oneself in a room; carry on with your essential activities but free yourself from association with the doer of them. Self is the Witness, you are That'. Reading this book drives the reader inward towards the source; that place whence all thoughts and the original 'I' thought arises. He called his method Atma Vichara - Self Enquiry - seeking the source of the ego and allowing the all-blissful Self to shine where it always has, in the Heart as I AM-I AM.
