Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Sue and Dan are building a snowman. They want to make it taller than the tree by their house. The big kids tease them and taunt saying that they will not accomplish the task. Will the "little kids" succeed? The illustrations are a bit misleading—the tree next to the house looks very tall, and when the snow bends its branches it makes one wonder why the tree that tall does not break under the weight. Also, the math concepts are at a higher level than the interest level of the story. There is a measurement activity (answers supplied), glossary, three additional books to reference, and FactHound's assistance to find information on the Internet. This is a mixed bag that teachers will need to evaluate to determine if the book is really useful as a lesson about measurement for the target age group. This Green Level math book in the "Read-It Readers" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
