Overview

Vivvie Collins was only there for the cheddar biscuits. A blind date at Red Lobster turns ugly and she is marked by an ancient beast out of spite for her rejection. Soon her roommate goes missing, every stray cat in the neighborhood is crawling over her patio, and she develops some serious issues of her own.
The creature that stalks her isn't going anywhere. He returns nightly to mark his territory. She has no idea what is planned for her until a strange man arrives. Disbelief and terror combine as she faces the fact she has been infected by one of his tribesmen, his kinsmen named Ryken.
Ty is one of five ancient Indians cursed by a demon of the Spirit World. He shifts into a black panther with the power of sight, forever trapped between both worlds, part human and part beast. He has only one soul left from the nine he was born with. He is determined to kill the one who bit her, even if it means leaving Vivvie.
Vivvie is terrified to know what she is turning into. Going into heat and chasing her food is the least of her problems. She is believed dead, can never go home, never see her family and friends again. Arriving at an underground retreat, she is feared and hated by the tribe, an outsider.
The leader of the tribe, Elijah, sees Vivvie as a nuisance, a breeder that could already complicate their growing population numbers. He lets her stay against his better judgment. Soon, he is as intrigued as Ty with the Newbreed and her strange powers.
The beast that marked Vivvie is coming back for her, a threat to their very way of life.

Meet the Author

Karolyn Cairns is a single mother of 15yr-old twins. She lives in sunny Florida. She spends a lot of time sitting in the sun thinking about that next great book. When she's not making up stories, she spends a lot of time working in the garden. She's back to work writing after some time off. Its been a great year.
She just wrapped up The Libertine's Wife, a historical romance. I would warn you right away that the hero in this book lives his life by a philosophy and set of rules most women would find disagreeable. We make NO apologies for Garret. He won't apologize, so why should we? A new historical romance titled A Viking's Love, is also available now. She is currently working on books three to 'The Wicked Series' and 'The Lost Tribe Series'. 'A Wicked Arrangement' is in the works, and 'Fangs'.
Karolyn enjoys reviews and comments from readers. She thanks you for all your encouragement.
Two titles will be coming soon to Smashwords, previously released on Amazon KDP select. A Witch's Tale and Love.com will be coming soon.

    Fantastic Twist on Shapeshifter Stories

Very engaging paranormal romance. Absoluetly worth sacrficing sleep. Sometimes ADD will kick in with free books, but this book keeps the reader reading well past the time they should have put it down and started making dinner. Sorry kids...

    Wow what a good book

600+ page great read. Not your average shapeshifter book. Definately has an ending that makes you want more. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series.

    Couldn't finish it.

I'm usually very forgiving of writing that isn't up to par if the story is good enough to keep me reading anyway. I just couldn't overlook it on this one because it's just that bad. Confusing, under developed characters, poorly written overall. The only character I found believable was the bad guy. I had a hard time figuring out why the good guys were the good guys, because they didn't really come across as that different than the bad guys. I just didn't CARE. It had potential, maybe with a decent editor that said "cut this out, flesh that in, tell us why this is important and why we should care", it might have been a decent story but I was put off more than I was pulled into the story.

    I loved it!

Despite the facts that it has a lot of grammatical errors and some adult theme, I like the story because it was very different from your usual vampire and werewolf type of story. You have people who can turn into panthers. Also you are taken by surprise who the main character ends up with. Over all I really like this story and I recondmend it to the age group of 18+. I loved it and hope you love it too. :)

    Great read

I really enjoyed reading Vivvies story. So many emotions filled this 600+ page book. I can't wait to read the sequel since this book leaves you hanging. I highly recommend this book but wish the author would use then/than and either/neither correctly. It happened several times. Plus, the baby boy twins name changed after the names were announced. These errors should in no way keep you from reading this great story of black panther shifters.

    I tried.
I really, really tried to like this - or at least to finish it. About a third of the way through I had to go back to read all of the fantastic reviews. Reassured that it must get better, I continued to a little over halfway through but finally had to give up. I'm usually very accepting of typos and grammar mistakes, but in return the characters must be engaging and the plot line has to make sense. A little more humanity in the shapechanging would have been appreciated also - the incidence of kitty behavior, especially in regard to sex, was a little over the top. I was relieved to find that I did get this book for free, because it is definitely not worth the $2.99 they're now charging for it. If you're looking for YA paranormal romance, try Lure, Asphodel or Wayward. All are much more readable, and at 99 cents each are a much better way to spend your three dollars.

    Terrible and boring

The entire book is about people mimicing cats and only wanting to mate. Every page talks about tom cats want to mate with the women of the pack. It was terrible and rather juvenile.

Very awesome shapeshifting story. The begining didn't drag or make you wonder when's the action going to start. Instead it captured your attention and make you eager to know what's gonna happen next

    Interesting concept, but . . .

This book has an unusual twist, instead of vampires or werewolves, the characters can turn into super-panthers. I did enjoy the descriptions of the various "super cat" powers that they had. However, the book is not particularly well written, mundane and repetitive, also there are many typos and grammatical errors, which really bother me although others might be able to overlook. Also apparently it is the start of a series, it ends very abruptly with a cliff-hanger. It's very long, I flipped through pages at times. It's OK for a free book.

    Very Good!

Just a few mis-spelled or misused words but otherwise well done. Can't wait for the follow-up now that Tania, the selfish is awake.

    I give it a three

I personally liked Ty 100x better than Eli. But hey. I wont spoil it. I was very interested in the cat like behavior. Andthe ending made the book 100x better. Left off where your going to haveee to read the next book. I would say this is for 17 year olds and up! Alot of sextual senes. A little too much. But you yeah. I give it a three. It was alright but very differant.

    Could not put it down!!!

OMG this book was one of the BEST free reads I have ever read. Even if I had to pay for it, it would have been worth it. 643 pages on my NOOK Tablet!! The chatacters interest in one another was a little misleading at first but then once the story got rolling they meshed pretty well together. Very well written and developed. I definitely look forward to reading more books by this author!

    Excellent, though...

the story could use some tightening up. The middle dragged, but the ending was great. Spelling and some syntax errors but not many.
