Overview

After losing his wife, Dr. Alexander Dominican is determined his infant daughter will not grow up motherless as he did. Offering sensible, kind kindergarten teacher Mary Adams a marriage of convenience seems like the perfect solution. The widow's husband left her with a mountain of debt. For Alex, paying it off is a small price to pay for his daughter's happiness. Until his sensible new wife begins to lose her mind.

On the day of their marriage, Mary starts having frightening hallucinations of medieval England—visions that feel more like the memories of woman who lived centuries before. More terrifying, someone—or some thing—is stalking the new mistress of Marchbrook Manor. Could it be one of the sinister servants? Or Alex himself? Alex is reawakening hidden desires and longings in Mary, but until she can untangle the web of nightmares and secrets, she can trust no one. Not even Alex.

Alex has no idea he's unleashing a destiny that's taken him seven hundred years to fulfill.

If Alex and Mary are to salvage their future, they must first unravel centuries of…Tangled Memories.

About the Author

Whether it is the Bluegrass of Kentucky, the mountains of Montana, or Medieval England, Jan Scarbrough brings you home with romances from the heart.

Jan Scarbrough is the author of two popular Bluegrass series, writing heartwarming contemporary romances about home and family, single moms and children. Living in the horse country of Kentucky makes it easy for Jan to add small town, Southern charm to her books and the excitement of a Bluegrass horse race or a competitive horse show.

Leaving her contemporary voice behind, Jan has written paranormal gothic romances: Tangled Memories, a Romance Writers of America (RWA) Golden Heart finalist, and Timeless. Her medieval romance, My Lord Raven is a story of honor and betrayal.

A member of Novelist, Inc., Jan self-publishes her books with the help of her husband. She has published 26 romances.

Jan lives in Louisville, Kentucky, with one rescued dog, one rescued cat, and a husband she rescued 23 years ago.

When she isn't writing, she loves to ride American Saddlebred horses, drive grandchildren to activities, and volunteer with Alley Cat Advocates. There is nothing she enjoys more than curling up with a good book.

As Alex pulled his giant black horse upward, the animal threatened the air with his heavily shod hooves. Thwarted, I reined Lady to the right only to meet again my black-clad tormentor and his warlike horse. Whichever way I turned, he blocked my way. I screamed with frustration and fright. I wouldn't let this man get the best of me. When I pivoted again to the left, the black horse was a jump ahead of me. Again the animal reared. My brave mare shuddered beneath my legs.

"I hate you Alexander Dominican!" I shrieked through tears.

Alex's horse turned in an agitated circle. "No you don't."

"Yes, I do! This marriage is damned! I want to get away from you." I started forward once more.

Slowly, like the view from a slow motion camera, the black gelding reared again. Just as slowly, Alex toppled off. Already unbalanced, the horse fell on his side amid a wild thrashing of hooves. In seconds, the black animal regained his feet, yet Alex remained silent and still on the ground. Lady stood immobile beneath me. My palms were wet inside my gloves.

Dizzy waves washed through me. Like so many other things, this had happened to me sometime in the past. Not in this particular way, not in this same manner, but it had happened. My heart trembled with remembering. My body ached with a longing and an anxiety retained from some previous time. Some unfathomable force pulled me toward Alex in a way I couldn't control. I fought it. A fierce battle raged within my mind and spirit. I convulsed with it. I opposed the certainty growing strongly within my being that I could not leave without knowing if my husband was alive or dead. After all, he was my reason for existence.
