But though the lady seems grateful for his assistance, she flees the scene without revealing her name. And though past scandals and present dangers threaten his pursuit of the mysterious lady, he knows she is to be his destiny.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
An independent, country-bred lady takes her younger sister to London for the Season and becomes sought after herself, much to the surprise—and consternation—of the notorious noble rake she'd encountered in the country. Originally published in 1992 as a Harlequin Historical, this is one of Laurens's delightfully compelling early Regency-era romances. While not billed as a traditional Regency, it would be a welcome addition to many of those collections.

I enjoyed the characters even though Dorothea seemed a little spoiled. You already knew in the beginning of the book what the outcome would be.

I loved the primary male character in this book. The by play between the protagonists is truly enjoyable.

This book was really interesting. You couldn't help but root for Dorthea and her sister Cecily and their men. I couldn't put it down.

The story is OK but lackluster, as are the characters. Definitely not up to par compared to her other works.

If you are looking for something steamy, passionate, and hot this is NOT the book for you. The most sexually descriptive she gets is to mention a touch of a breast! Scandalous! If you like your romance novels written for a puritan and enjoy the sex scenes (1.5 to be exact) to consist of .... several hours later, then I highly recommend this book. I've been reading romance novels for 25 years now, my guilty pleasure, and I have never read another book so lacking in carnal description.
