Former homicide detective Douglas O'Fallon ...
Former homicide detective Douglas O'Fallon possesses his own psychic gift, one he's denied for years. Hired by a wealthy client to prove that Gavenia is a con artist, he is skeptical of the witch's claims she can speak to the dead. If he finds her gift to be genuine, then he will be forced to accept his own. When their two cases intersect, opposites attract. But will they be able to set their differences aside long enough to outwit their foes - both the living and the dead?

Well, I was obsessed with her young adult series, guess I’ll just have to be obsessed with her adult series too :) I’m pretty excited about this one. You get lots from this book, lots of mystery, paranormal, a little romance with a side of fun and adventure! :) I will say that it took a little bit in the beginning, but you have to read back grounds and settings and learn the characters you are reading about when a new book or series starts, so I didn’t mind at all. Then, there’s things happening that you forgot you were supposed to be doing something else over an hour ago :) So, are you read for some fun?
Gavenia, aka Gav to me, is a nedium of sorts. She can see and speak to dead people. She helps them find their way to cross over to the “other” side when they get stuck here after death. It starts with a small boy who died getting stuck, and things get a little out of control in just a short time. I loved her character, as all she wants to do is be left alone from those skeptics so she can help those spirits who really need her. She has a very optimistic outlook on life and though she has some negative things going on, she tries not to let it bring her down.
On the other side is Doug O’Fallon, ex cop turned PI who is hired to track Gav. He has his own little gift that he refuses to acknowledge and wants nothing more that to devalue Gav so he doesn’t have to confront his own fears. With Gav being a proud wiccan and Doug being a proud Catholic, it’s taken a very interesting turn, without being a religious book. Doug and Gav have a real adventure ahead of them when things are getting crazy!!
The writing is excellent, as I expected, but I didn’t expect this story. It’s a fun paranormal romance that will have you thinking hard, and cheering harder. It was a great adventure, with some lovely twists, I just hope that even though this reads like a stand alone and ties up lovely, there’s a little room left to continue- AND I REALLY WANT MORE!!! I really hope this continues soon too! 4.5 PSYCHIC ASPIRING PAWS!

Jana Oliver weaves an intricate mystery within an enthralling paranormal romance in Tangled Souls.
In her late thirties, Gavenia Kingsgrave is a Wiccan witch with psychic abilities; she sees dead people and helps them cross over. Hired by the victim’s father, Gavenia’s most recent case, helping a young hit and run victim named Bradley, is causing her a great amount of stress since he refuses to cross over without seeing his dog again. Compassionate and giving, she generously donates her time to help these souls while only requesting their families make donations to a charity, if able, which is a perfect fit for her character and in turn endeared her to me. As a practicing Wiccan witch, Gavenia is comfortable with her faith, her beliefs, and her gift, which is refreshing.
Complicating Gavenia’s life is private investigator Douglas O’Fallon. Douglas, who has been hired to investigate Gavenia, wants nothing more than to prove she is a fraud. But, as Doug’s investigation continues, he discovers that Gavenia is just what she says she is. After their first auspicious meeting, Gavenia and Doug agree to work together to help Bradley. Doug, a practicing Catholic, doesn’t shy away from showing his faith either, which I really loved about his character too. Oliver does a masterful job of balancing the characters’ faiths within the story without being overly dramatic or preachy. As they spend time together, Doug realizes that he is attracted to Gavenia. But, Doug is hiding a secret from Gavenia. He too has a psychic ability; he sees visions when he touches a victim’s personal item. Since Gavenia and Doug are older, their relationship grows in a mature and organic way. Their witty banter while getting to know each other makes their relationship more special when it changes from friends to lovers. Gavenia and Doug’s pets are interesting as well since they fully accepted their owners’ new love interests long before the two humans figured out that they were falling in love, which made me smile. The strength that Gavenia and Doug find within their relationship allows each of them to fully accept their gifts, which is a beautiful thing to see.
Tangled Souls is a well-crafted paranormal romance with believable characters and plot twists a plenty that keep the pages turning to the perfect romantic conclusion.
Oliver nicely ties up all of the major plot points while leaving the door open to revisit these characters again in the future if she so chooses.
I received an eBook copy of the book for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.
