Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kip Wilson
One of titles in the "Discovery Adventures" series, this book presents great detail on these combat vehicles that have been in use since World War I. Brook captures young readers' interest with diagrams and descriptions that include everything from basic parts of all tanks to detailed descriptions of specific tanks, which include colorful, fold-out diagrams. Young readers will also be thrilled to find some scenes depicted in comic book style. The tools and equipment used by tank crews are detailed across several spreads, and the history of the tank is presented, including several authentic photographs from tanks in use in World War I and II, and continuing up to tanks used in the present day. Glossary terms are well-defined in the back of the book, and a helpful index in the back of the book is also included. Small text boxes scattered throughout the book provide a quick overview of many individual tanks' features. This interesting read provides a great springboard for young readers wanting to learn about the role tanks have played in the last century, as well as get an idea what it's like to be part of a tank crew.
