Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In this companion to Toot Toot Beep Beep and Tip Tip Dig Dig, freely shaped tools sport googly eyes and tackle different tasks. Rendered with hand-printed paper and acrylics in the style of Eric Carle, a saw goes “cree craw cree craw,” a glue gun “stickety stick,” and a mallet “whack whack,” as they work together to construct a red go-kart. Reader-directed text (“We can turn turn with the wrench,”) provides the next best thing to actually holding the tools. Ages 2–4. (May)
School Library Journal
PreS—A lively introduction to tools and the sounds that they make. Each one, such as a saw, chisel, and drill, has its own distinctive sound ("cree craw," "chippety chip," "zzz") that children will enjoy repeating. They all work together to make a bright, cherry-red go-kart that will "go, go, go." Garcia's artwork is clear and colorful, and all of the tools stand out against the stark white backgrounds. However, each one has a pair of blank, staring eyeballs that can be somewhat cold and disconcerting. The type is large, with the verbs printed in bold. There are plenty of opportunities to stretch vocabulary with these building-tool words, from glue guns to pliers.—Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA
