Taps for Private Tussie remains Jesse Stuart’s most well-known novel. Soldier Kim Tussie’s death brings his widow, Vittie, $10,000 in insurance money. Innocent young Sid Tussie describes what happens when a poor mountain clan comes into sudden wealth and their antics become a tale of high comedy, as forty-six Tussies pack themselves into their new “mansion” and proceed to live the good life—until something unexpected ended it all. Jessie Stuart never fails to deliver. If you like Mark Twain you will love Jesse. He is truly a great american author. I first read this story as a high school student and was blown away. Taps for Private Tussie is almost like a prequil to the Beverly Hillbillies. When private tusse is killed in world war one his family recieves his several thousand dollar insurance money. They, along with relatives, move from the Kentucky hills to a mansion in town, let the hi-jinx begin!

Jesse Stuart's masterpiece! So funny I've gone back to parts, time and time again, to read and laugh so hard. I've heard of people who love sad movies cause they say they need to cry. Well, I love funny movies that make me laugh, and love the books that can follow suit. This book may not be for everyone, but it's one of the best words put on paper in my opinion.
