Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Thomas Jacobsen, PharmD, MS, RPh, FASCP (ViroPharma Incorporated)
Description: This is a comprehensive collection of drug information for healthcare professionals. Pocket and professional desk reference editions are also available.
Purpose: It is intended to provide healthcare professionals an easy to use and concise drug information reference for daily practice.
Audience: Healthcare professionals, residents, and students will find this to be a valuable source of drug information. It is edited by a panel of drug information experts with extensive peer review and input from more than 50 practicing clinicians of multiple specialties.
Features: Drugs are arranged by clinical class, and the comprehensive index contains both generic and brand names. Each drug monograph provides essential information needed to make clinical decisions. Of particular use, and not seen in most drug information references, is the relative cost of each drug as well as safety information for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Assessment: As with any drug information reference, there may be omissions. This book should be used only as a guide and each patient treatment should be based on sound clinical judgment. For years, Tarascon has served as an excellent source for drug information and the books are easily identifiable by the 1574 cover woodcut of "The Apothecary" by Amman. This would be a valuable addition to any library.
