Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP (Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)
Description: This is an annual update of a book that provides a thumbnail listing of the common medications used to treat common conditions.
Purpose: This versatile book enables clinicians to immediately find the medicines used to treat patients, in contrast to other versions of the pharmacopoeia which merely list the medications and pertinent information. For busy clinicians, this is a tremendous asset.
Audience: This small reference is aimed at busy clinicians who wish a resource to identify alternative medications after the first one is deemed unacceptable for any reason, or for finding newly approved medicines.
Features: This version has much to offer physicians choosing a medication, particularly when treating patients with comorbid conditions or when previous prescriptions have failed or are otherwise unacceptable. This version includes all the information of previous versions, such as use in pregnancy, metabolism and excretion characteristics, and relative costs.
Assessment: This is about the most user-friendly of all of the references on the market for looking up medication information.
