Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Reus strikes just the right balance of steamy sexual tension and nail-biting action when administrative assistant Sophie Moreno joins undercover NSA agent Jack Stone, aka Sam Kelly, on a rollercoaster ride of danger. Sophie is at a routine lunch meeting with Sam, whose cover calls for him to do business with her employer, South Beach Medical Supply. Then a sniper takes aim at Sophie, who’s been snooping around links between SBMS and international drug smuggler Miguel Vargas—the same deal Sam has been sent to investigate. He pulls her to cover and for the next 48 hours they’re never more than a hair’s breadth from death. Reus ratchets up the heat and the danger with a complicated backstory: Sam and Sophie were childhood friends, but he’s had so much plastic surgery that she doesn’t recognize him, and he can’t reveal the truth or he’ll blow his cover. This romantic thriller reliably hits every note that fans of the genre will expect. (Oct.)

    New series by Katie Reus!

Targeted is the 1st book in Katie Reus's new series, Deadly Ops. Similar to her Red Stone Security series (I highly recommend!) it is full of suspense and non-stop action. Jack, aka Sam, former US Marine sniper and present NSA agent, takes a job that requires him to work undercover with Sophie, "Sam's" one-time love.

I fell for Jack hard! He's the whole package...dangerous/deadly skills, protective, and downright sexy! The heat between he and Sophie makes you fan yourself. But as much as I loved Jack, I had a very love/hate connection with Sophie throughout the book. Her backstory tells us she's been hurt before, so you expect trust and/or closeness issues, but she had so much anger toward Jack that she often felt more brat than strong heroine.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is a very impressive start to Katie's new series and I look forward to more Deadly Ops adventures.

    Recommended read.

    Awesome

    ## Oh, I really enjoyed this book. I recently finished reading the Red Stone Security series by this same author and loved her books enough to seek out this one. This story was so intriguing, it kept me entertained throughout. I really couldn't put it down. Both the suspense and the romance were superb. The two leads had undeniable chemistry. The sole reason I rated this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because I would've liked a more satisfying ending. Although there was an epilogue, it really did nothing to wrap up this story. I'm assuming it's setting up the next book. Other than that this is one terrific read. Will definitely read again.

There really aren't words for me to say how much I loved this story. I love all things Katie Reus, but this has become my favorite of her romantic suspense stories, because there was just so much action and "who done it" going on! I loved that we were able to get a peak into the pasts of Sam/Jack and Sophie, but doing so never slowed down the pace of the story, which I thought was fantastic. The idea behind the Black Death 9 group, and the cases they deal with, was intriguing. Ms. Reus, as usual, wrote really solid characters & I'm looking forward to seeing them again in the next book. I'd love to see how Sophie and Jack are doing & of course, I'm curious about what's going on with Levi. Another part of the book that I loved, was Ms. Reus' attention to detail when describing the setting. Without being overly wordy, she does a great job of making the city of Miami and its surrounding areas come to life. It's a testament to her skills that she can have so much going on in a book, and no one aspect takes over. The action, romance, setting and plot flowed perfectly!
I cannot believe we have to wait until next fall for more of this series...but wait I will!

Jack left his old life behind all except for his feeling for one

Jack left his old life behind all except for his feeling for one high school friend. Jack made some tough choices ones that made him rethink.
Sophie's life was not always the easiest. She had a few regrets but non like the regrets she had with her friend Sam. She lost the chance to fix those regrets and she never thought she would have a chance to fix them.

Jack takes a mission that brings him into contact with Sophie again. It brings up all his past feelings. Ones that were thought buried. When her life is in danger he steps up to his old roles. He wants to protector her and would do anything for her.

This story felt so realistic. It was so easy to get lost into it.
Katie has a great way to flow the story right out so you can just fell like you were jumping right into the role of the characters.

I am hooked. Now I want some more. :-)

Jack and Sophie burn up the pages in this new romantic suspense

Jack and Sophie burn up the pages in this new romantic suspense series from Katie Reus. I really liked Sophie, she kept her cool under some very stressful situations and Jack, well Jack is the perfect hero. He’s an Alpha hero and definitely very capable.

The book takes off right from the beginning and the action doesn’t stop. On top of the amazing nonstop action there is this serious chemistry. Jack and Sophie obviously are meant for each other, and they are HOT together.

I definitely loved this series and I can not wait for the rest of the series. There were hints of what may be to come and I really hope it goes that way. If you love romantic suspense that’s hot with nonstop action, then pick this book up now!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review.

    Loved It!

Jack and Sophie have a history, but Jack has to hide it from her while he's protecting her. Their bond is instant, yet Sophie doesn't understand why. I loved this book. It had everything, suspense, action, love and romance. A very good read, I highly recommend.

    Kudos to Katie Reus!

What an outstanding read. Thoroughly enjoyed the artful balance of romance, action, suspense, bad guys being really bad, hero being phenomenally Warrior Alpha, a STRONG (and likeable) heroine, believable characters, sexual tension, and tasteful sex. That's a lot of balls for the writer to keep juggling....and then she threw in more: a mole/leak, technology, secondary characters points-of-view, spot-on motivation and reactions, dialogue that worked. What a page turner! I fought with myself to read slowly enough to savor and get the full experience of discovering the plot as it unfolded...while desperate to read faster because I had to see what would happen next!

This "big book" had it all...and it worked. All the way around.

As the first book in a new series, it set up a marvelously intriguing new world....and I can see possibilities I *HOPE* will be explored in the books that follow. I know they'll be definite buys for me! I won't even think twice. And each one will go right to the top of my TBR list.

My favorite genres include military romantic suspense ...and this is by far the best QUALITY one I've read in a very long while. My thanks to the author for writing a book I savored!

Okay, I will admit to picking up this book due to the very attractive cover. It just screamed romantic suspense and hotness all over the place. And I lucked out yet again; Targeted is full of romance, suspense and a whole lot of hotness proving that sometimes, the cover is a good place to start to judge a book. No, don’t do that, I just got lucky. =P

Former Marine, now National Security Agent, Jack Stone is given the most difficult assignment he has had. He has to work with the only woman he’s ever loved who thinks he is dead. Now with a new face and identity, staying to his cover will be difficult. Sophie, on the other hand, has her own tortured past. She and Jack were foster kids, and unfortunately, she did not come out of it unscathed. Though she loved Jack, part of her resented him from leaving her to suffer. A tragic life they both lived but now they will get the chance to finally, to resurrect a life that was meant to be…happy.

I loved Jack. I think he is a total swoon worthy hero. The fact that he is strong enough to live without Sophie for her benefit is most definitely courageous. I love that despite his years apart from her, his love remains strong. He is also hot as hell. Sophie was an okay heroine. I felt her pain as a foster child and her issues about it as an adult. She definitely made some decisions that make her a brave heroine. Not so much physical but more in her line of work. I didn’t love her, and I didn’t hate her either, but I understood her.

My heart did break for Sophie and Jack. They just couldn’t get a break. Getting a second chance is the strength of their characters. Surviving only to find happiness someday. And while I read this, I must haveve just held my breath in hopes they find their way to each other. It really was sweet. Of course, it wasn’t all heartaches and sweatiness. Ms. Reus gave this story a good blend of romance along with plenty of action and suspense.

This is my first Katie Reus novel. I’ve heard good things about her but never had the chance until now. I was impressed. Her writing flowed, and the story was at a constant fast pace. I’m hoping the next novel will be the same if not better. Looks like there are plans for a second and third installment this series, which I will be waiting for.

I can’t actually say Sophie stumbles on the criminal dealings taking place in her office because she goes looking when her suspicions are raised.  And that is a good description of her personality.  If things aren’t right, Sophie wants to know why and what can be done to fix them.

Unfortunately, this time she has gotten into something that is going to get her killed.

Enter the NSA and Jack Stone.  The NSA was already investigating Sophie’s employer and wants the information she has found.  Jack is the perfect agent to send because he is actually the young man Sophie loved when she was a teenager and has thought dead for many years.

The agency has changed Jack’s appearance enough that he is unrecognizable, but there is something about his eyes.

Targeted is the first in a new series by Katie Reus titled Deadly Ops and it is an excellent beginning.  Both Jack and Sophie are strong, likable characters and the storyline of espionage and rescue is engrossing.

The book is primarily a series of scenes in which Jack has to save Sophie from the bad guys, but more importantly, it is the story of two people who have always loved one another discovering each other again.

I felt so sorry for Jack because he still loves Sophie, but he cannot tell her that he is really Sam.  He wants to comfort her as a lover, but has to act like they are two people who have just met.  I really liked that Jack’s feelings were shown to be just as strong as Sophie’s.

Two additional characters are interested and I really hope book two will be about them.  I cannot find any information about the sequel, but I will be buying it as soon as it is available.

I won this book in a contest but let me tell you - Targeted (Deadly Ops #1) by Katie Reus is terrific. The characters of Jack Stone aka Sam and Sophie Moreno were extremely well written as were the supporting characters. Sam and Sophie have both had very rough childhoods but when they meet they finally have the love and security they both want and need. But life happens and they are torn apart. Many years later after Sam joins the NSA and changes his identity to Jack Stone he is sent on an undercover operation which brings Sophie back into his life. Sophie is in the middle of a dangerous situation and finds out she has been betrayed. She doesn't know who to trust. Jack is there for her and even though she doesn't fully trust him there is something familiar and soothing about him. The wise cracking banter between the two of them gives the story a little light on what they must have been like together as teenagers. The suspense is riveting and has twists and turns that were unexpected with the characters involved. In the midst of all that is going on around them, the chemistry between Jack and Sophie continues to escalate. Sophie is confused by this because she hasn't felt this way since Sam. Jack knows that after seeing and being with Sophie again he will not be able to walk away from her again without it killing him but is terrified Sophie may not feel the same way. Especially if she finds out the truth about who he is.

I'm looking forward to Deadly Ops #2. I'm a definite fan of this series!

    REVIEW:
I enjoyed Targeted but was not in love with it.  I liked Jack & Sophie well enough but never fully connected with them.   Targeted was good don’t get me wrong.  The tension between Jack & Sophie was electric.  Fueled more by the fact that they have a past that she is not aware of.   The story line is filled with danger, tension and a heavy dose of suspense.  But for me there was not a huge spark of excitement.  It could have been my mood, the weather, stress who knows.  But even with that I still did enjoy the new world the Katie has created and I am looking forward to the next Deadly Ops story.

4.25 stars:  TARGETED is the first storyline in Katie Reus¿s new

4.25 stars:  TARGETED is the first storyline in Katie Reus’s new contemporary, suspense Deadly Ops series that introduces the former marines and military personnel currently working for the NSA.
Jack Stone is a former Marine sniper and a man with a secret past.  His latest undercover assignment is to infiltrate the South Beach Medical Supply (SBMS)  company and uncover the connections to a multi-billion dollar drug cartel and arms dealer. And the assignment becomes personal when he is forced to work alongside SBMS employee Sophie Moreno – the very woman who owns him heart and soul.
TARGETED is a storyline that pulls the reader into a non-stop, action packed adventure where two would-be strangers have much more in common than uncovering the truth.  On the run throughout most of the novel, Sophie and Jack’s attraction to one another will become a definite hazard as Jack’s need to protect Sophie is a distraction they do not need.
Katie introduces several secondary characters including Levi, a former friend and missing member of the NSA. Levi’s story is building and you know that Katie has plans on the horizon for Levi.  Levi is a man whose life has been destroyed and he is on the hunt for the person or people responsible.
There is plenty of backstory that allows the reader a deeper understanding into Sophie and Jack’s pasts although there is a major gap in the earlier years after Sophie turns away from the only man she has ever loved.  It would have added a deeper understanding to the events that occurred in the backstory and history that was only revealed towards the end of the novel.
Katie Reus pulls the reader into a storyline of second chances, betrayal and the truth about forgotten lives and hidden pasts.  Sometimes the heart knows where it belongs and a second chance at love is only the beginning.
