Editorial Reviews

Barbara Jacobs
Many professionals may wince at Bly's subtitle, but it's true that corporate executives, on the whole, equate public relations with free advertising. And, though the author does promote his ideas as being fresh looks at publicity, most of his techniques are commonly used by experienced practitioners. On the other hand, he destroys common myths about public relations--for instance, "you need contacts" and "press releases don't work." He gives a novel twist to merchandising (without mentioning it as such), advocating the use and reuse of tip sheets, booklets, and editorial articles. Finally, he includes enough details and solid how-tos so any small business chairperson can take advantage of his advice. Plus, it's written jargon-free in easy-to-understand language. Common sense prevails.
