Overview

After a vicious vampire attack left him struggling to leash the dark urges of the craving virus, John ‘Rip’ Doolan, thinks he’s finally starting to master the darkness within. The only thing that threatens to shatter his hard-won control is Esme, his closest friend and the only woman he’s ever wanted. If the stubborn beauty ever realized precisely what was going through his mind, their friendship would be ruined…

For six months Esme has waited for Rip to recover and take her as his thrall, not daring to hope for more. Too afraid to put her heart on the line, she is devastated when Rip reveals that he never had any intentions of making her his.

But when a savage gang of Slashers start causing havoc in Whitechapel, Rip and Esme have no choice. They must face up to the depth of the passion that burns between them and forge a new relationship… or risk losing each other forever.

4/22/13 A dandy bridge book, a good read.

What people need to realize is that this is a FILLER book, not a stand alone one. If you have read McMaster's previous book (Kiss of Steel) this one will make total sense, however if you haven't I would recommend starting with it, as Tarnished Knight does not give a lot of that backstory to make it make sense. Overall a good read!

Again, Bec McMaster has a way with words that just draws you in and gets you addicted to her storyline to the point it makes it almost heartbreaking to have to put down the book without finishing it if you haven't done so in one reading. Love the insight to Rip {John} and Esme. Love that Bec is able to give you plenty of adventure with touches of Romance and more. An absolute pleasure to read, and recommend this series to read, it's Fantastic!

John aka Rip and Esme were great together. John the gentle giant well only to Esme. Esme is sweet and such a lovable character. How could you not want them to have HEA. I'm so glad they got their own little book. Lovin this series!

This is a steam punk story, but you don't know this until you are into it a bit. Can be very slow and boring at parts. Period terms used are pretentious and confusing, ones that generally readers wouldn't know what they mean. Actually the year is never revealed, so that makes for confusion. Her use and spelling of cockney is off kilter and not consistent. Characters are shallow and stereotyped, esp the women. The rest of series is too expensive for this story, the cost being what you would pay for a real paperback.

I have fallen in love with this author and her way of telling stories. Great imagery, plot and character development. Love it all.

Good story, good characters, cool world, but too many apostrophe errors. Plurals were written as possessive and it drove me crazy!

A very rich, well realized world within a short story.

Not being one to read Overviews very carefully, I saw a very nice cover and thought Historical Romance. I started reading and quickly discovered Para-normal. The content of this book is very good. I had a hard time putting it down at midnight, I did enjoy the adventures of Rip and his friends. You probably will too.

My Rating 4.5 In a world were vampires rule, the dark and desperate human lives have one hope, the protection of a kind vampire. When the protection is threatened, newly turned Rip will do everything in his power to stop these attacks and restore the trust of the people of their town. This is a wonderful novella length story about how Esme and John "Rip" Doolan finally get together. As a wonderfully crafted steampunk series, this novella provides some much wanted background into the side characters we've come to love. Bec McMaster once agains blends a dark and gritty existance into the perfect vampire romance story.
