Overview

Orphaned and alone in the West African jungle, a young child is discovered by female ape named Kala, and raised as one of her tribe. Tarzan remains hidden from civilization — even the locals believe him to merely be an evil spirit — until he meets Jane, an American traveler stranded on the coast.

Over the course of the 8 novels in this collection, Edgar Rice Burroughs' iconic character battles gorillas, lions, and armies of men. He travels to the United States, uncovers long-forgotten treasures, becomes entangled in World War I, discovers his true nature, and falls in love.

This collection includes original artwork for each book, stills and clips from the 1918 silent film adaptation, and an index of names, places, and terms in the ape language.

    Fantastic

I loved it from the first to the last page! About 3/4 the way through there seemed to be a noticed increase in misspelled words, etc. But not enough to stop my enjoyment !! The author is awesome -- hard to believe the series was written 100 years ago. ENJOY!!!

    Excellent Compilation!

    This is a great compilation.

I prefer to read the books independently of each other and found a series that allows me to do this here: Tarzan Classics Book Collection. I have attached them with this review for your reference if you also enjoy buying individual books rather than one large set.

    Tarzan is definitely a swinger!

This book contains all of Tarzan's adventures. It is written from an early 1900s perspective and the language in it is definitely not politically correct. The stories get a little formula driven after a while, but it is cliffhanger after cliffhanger. But again I caution you, the language and attitudes may be very shocking to 21st century sensibilities. But there is enough action to keep you interested, but this is not a collection you can sit down and read all the way through, since it is several books in one collection.

Great entertainment for a rainy afternoon.

I loved the Tarzan movies on TV as a child. I had never read the books. They are entertaining and fun. The first is the best. The sequels are perhaps even more fantastic in storyline but still fun to read. The books are so different from what Hollywood gave us in the movies. I'm truly sorry they didn't try to stick closer to the books when they made the movies. I have to stress that these books have such an unbelievable storyline that they are tremendous fun to read.

Very Nice Read, Needs to have a spell checker

I enjooyed every page of this book, However two things were wrong. first, it is missing the final book, that was written by both Edgar & his son. The second problem I found was the mispelling of simple words but I started overlooking this as i kept reading further into the book. All in all a great deal on a Great Classic Read...

    Tarzan of the apes

Loved the series as a child. Now I have all of them in one place. For those who have not read them before remember they are not politicly correct and are a product of there time. Also after the Son of Tarzan he started writing what he called the pot boilers. That is to say they become formulized and some he wrote just to keep up with the demand.

    Classics!

These are classic. I grew up them. Read the first additions. Most of the reviews seem to be ignorant of the CLASSIC factor. Politically correct...give me a break! If you are so sensitive do not read! Some political correctness can be necessary. However most is so rediculous!!! These have great story lines and thrilling. As in most books there are some places you just want to get through to get to the really excellent parts. I believe these to be very great reads!

    AWESOME!!!!

This is a greatly entertaning way to read the Tarzan series. However , you should be a pretty good reader because the books can get pretty complicated. Also, If you do not like violence, this book probably is not for you.
