Tarzan of the Apes is a seminal work-- not only the first book (and origin) of Tarzan, but the first modern mythic fiction superhero that would not only lay the groundwork for the fantasy pulps but the comic book superhero genre. Tarzan is the original modern superman. One of my top favorite books, right up there with King Kull.
Here you have the nicest paperback edition of the book ever done, annotated with several pages of notes, and an introduction, and most important, not seen in this outdated photo, is the new Frank Frazetta cover the book now has on its recent printing.
Highly recommended!

I first read 'Tarzan of the Apes' when I was 10 years old and occasionally still pull it out to re-read 44 years later. One of life's little pleasures! It is a story of noble character & great adventure. So different than the movie versions. Give it a try!

I had seen some Tarzan films before I read this book. I wanted to read it to see how Burrough's vision differed from the diffrent films that chronicled Tarzan's origin. And, I must say that I was amazed at how rich and entertaining THIS FANTASTIC BOOK was. I so enjoyed it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to see this legendary character in his true splendor, or to anyone looking for a good read.

This is NOT the seventh book in the Tarzan series: it is the first. It is an amazing tale of man versus nature, of how circumstances dictate much of what becomes of us. Two English aristocrats, Lord and Lady Greystoke, are marooned on the west coast of Africa by a band of ne'er do wells. Thing go poorly for the pair but their orphan son is adopted by Kala, a great ape. The rest is the story of Tarzan's coming of age and his growth to manhood.

I read this book not long after the Disnesy movie Tarzan of the Apes came out and I must say that this book is one of the BEST I've ever read!!! I would definately recommend it to anyone who loves adventureous or romantic stories! Those are my favorite types of books. Tarzan of the Apes kept me always looking forward to reading the next page, always wondering what would happen to the characters next. There are so many twists and unexpected turns in the story that it always kept me interested. IT'S THE MOST AMAZING BOOK EVER!!

An easy read and a good book. Written in 1912 by Edgar Rice with a passion of the wilderness and how one man ruled his jungle, educated himself, and falls in love.

This book is so ridiculously racist that I could not just keep it to myself, I had to share with all of my friends. The writing is similar to trashy, pulp stories. It was a guilty pleasure that I could not put down till I finished.

I first saw Disney's animated Tarzan movie and decided that if that was good, I might as well read the actual book. I was certaintly not disappointed! This book was so much better than I thought it would be! It was suspenseful and action-packed, it was NEVER boring. Recommended for all.

I really enjoyed reading this book beacase it wasnt something that could happen to a person in every day life and I also enjoyed it because it had some unexpected turns that I did not expect. My favorite character in this book was Tarzan of the apes because of what of what he went through and overcame but also because of some of the unnatural superhuman things he could do . The main conflict of the book had to do with Tarzan being accepted as one of the apes because he obvously was not an ape but in the end he becomes accepted and also becomes king of the apes

Overview
The number one, one and only original Tarzan. The novel is the coming-of-age story of John Clayton, born in the western coastal jungles of equatorial Africa to a marooned couple from England, John and Alice Clayton, Lord and Lady Greystoke. Adopted as an infant by the she-ape Kala after his parents are killed by the savage king ape Kerchak, Clayton is renamed Tarzan (''White Skin'' in the ape language) and raised in ignorance of his human heritage.
