More About This Textbook
Overview
A comprehensive, A-to-Z set of task planners for more than one hundred psychosocial problems from alcoholism and anxiety to domestic violence and sexual abuse. Each entry includes a menu of actions the client can undertake to affect resolution, a guide to the practitioner's role in facilitating these actions, and a reference list. An accompanying disk allows social workers to update the task planners they are working with and enables keyword searches for specific topics.

Covering an array of common problems, this nuts-and-bolts resource for social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, teachers, nurses, and guidance counselors helps answer perennial questions such as: "What kind of problem is my client facing?" "What can she do to resolve it?" and "How can I help?" For each problem (listed alphabetically from alcoholism/addiction to withdrawn child), a task menu contains possible actions the client can take as well as suggestions for how the practitioner can facilitate the actions or initiate others. A separate section on common procedures lists techniques that clients can use on their own or with guidance, such as applied relaxation, cognitive restructuring, contingency contracting, and parent training. In addition to presenting possible interventions for specific problems, the task planners map common problems that may not have occurred to the practitioner in a particular area; for example the broad category of "school problems" encompasses issues from anger management to phobia to peer conflict.
