Meet the Author

Richard Gauerke will rarely pass on an opportunity to hunt, fish or cook. Bonding with nature at an early age, he has developed a strong respect for all God’s creatures and is passionate about the outdoors and the world around him. A glimpse at his back trail reveals over five decades of beautiful sunrises, bone-chilling mornings, hot coffee on the camp stove, stew in the pot and lots of friends—friends with hearty appetites and adventure in their souls. Those many friends will attest that a venture into the wilds with Richard is an experience, due to his creative and delicious comfort food. Richard believes an integral part of each adventure is the food. Therefore, each meal or snack is anticipated with delight. Whether it’s the crew at the gun club or the fellas in fish camp, Richard and his buddies love good food and they eat well. As a popular camp cook, Richard’s cooking and recipes were much sought after; it was this interest that led to the creation of his first book, THE BEST OF THE PRAIRIE, which was soon followed by two more. Richard enjoys demonstrating his cooking skills whether in his kitchen or at a campsite, and he is on a continuous quest for new and tasty recipes.
