The tawny scrawny lion spends his days chasing animals in the area, but he never catches them. Then he makes friends with a rabbit who tries to teach him to fish and makes friends with him. The rabbit and other friends tell him he is skinny and feed him soup. Then they tickle the lion, and take a nap. Nice story about being friends with others who need help. Cute illustrations too!

I was very sensitive as a child.  The idea of one animal eating another animal bothered me.  So, as a consequence, despite the fantastic artwork, I did not really like this book. Fast-forward thirty or so years and I'm working as a children's librarian.  For some reason, our department decided to turn this book into a puppet show.  I'm working on the "screenplay" for the puppet show, and I suddenly realize how funny this book actually is.  My newly-five-year-old son has a very strong and and strange sense of humor.  He also is drawn to beautiful artwork.  He, of course, loves this book.

I remember my mother reading this book to me when I was in preschool. I loved it so much and asked her to read it so often that she eventually hid it. When it surfaced again a few months ago (now that I'm in college), I sat down to read it. Still a very cute story!
