Children's Literature - Elizabeth Young
A brief biography of everyone's favorite country star/girl-next-door. Taylor Swift has focused on writing and singing country music since she was ten years old. Music was, and still is, her life! It is easy to relate to Ms. Swift. Though she was bullied at school, her music and writing helped her overcome this abuse. Large, colorful photographs enhance the brief text, making for easy and quick reading, sure to delight Taylor Swift fans and future fans alike. Get to know Taylor a little better by finding out her thoughts on music, her goals, and even about her family. If that is not enough, there are websites and a brief bibliography to find out more about this country pop singer. The future sparkles for Taylor Swift. It is refreshing to read about a celebrity who can be thoughtful and is respectable! This volume in "The Big Time "series will be a welcome addition to any library, home, or school. Gr 2–4—Capitalizing on current levels of fame and popularity, this high-interest series profiles four pro-athletes and four singers, providing information about their backgrounds, their achievements and challenges, how they shot to fame, and their outside interests. Each book starts off with an opening scene that introduces the star doing what he or she does best: performing, playing football, etc. The large-font text is spare but informative, and chapters are divided logically. Each spread contains a full-color photograph that complements the narrative, which is clearly written and accessible for new and struggling readers. Glossary words are set apart in an italic, colored font throughout the texts. A solid, basic pop-culture biography set for younger readers.
