Buy this for Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." It's like no piano version you have ever heard. Vladimir Horowitiz owns this piece. He plays like a wild man and pushes the piano and himself to the ragged edge of control. Absolutely magnetic and stunning. Horowitz owns the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto was well (which is conducted by his father-in-law Arturo Toscanini) but this time Horowitz's over-the-top playing is bit much for my taste. I prefer Cliburn's performance which is similarly inspired but less manic. Repeat: buy this for the Mussorgsky. You will not regret it. Sound is dated but who cares with playing of such wild brilliance. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
