Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
For those little girls who still play with tea sets and have tea parties with their stuffed animals, this board book will be a sweet treat. Our young girl is getting all dressed up. She selects a pretty red dress with pink trim and then carefully puts on her pink tights. At the same time, she is selecting clothes for Teddy—a vest, tie, top hat and he too is soon ready to go. Her table is set for three with cookies and cups for tea. Who will that third person be? Why, Mommy of course! Along with the main story which details the preparations for the tea party, there is another tale in the art showing a little dog mimicking his mistress, but stopped in his tracks when he comes face-to-face with a ladybug. However, we do not ever see the little dog get an opportunity to share in the tea, which seems a tad unfair. The illustrations rendered in acrylics are amusing and really stand out on the crisp white pages of this title in the "Board Buddies" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
Kirkus Reviews
A little girl, her teddy and her dog (and a ladybug) prepare for a tea party in rhyming couplets. A clean white background allows the minimal set dressing and characters to take center stage. Even as the little girl dresses herself and teddy spread by spread, the dog and the ladybug provide a wordless counterpoint, the one solemnly pulling a sweater over its head, and the other squeezing into a toy ring. The girl may look a little wobbly in her mom's high heels, but she's able to set the table and wait for Mommy to join them. It's a just-right mix of text and illustration to coax the youngest readers into following a narrative; the familiarity of the activity serves to reinforce this. A sweet little beginning story. (Board book. 1-3)
