Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
IDG's 3-D Visual guide to Windows 98 is here! With over 300 pages of eye-catching full-color illustrations and screenshots, you'll learn Windows 98 by seeing exactly the way each operation in executed, with a minimum of reading. Each two-page spread provides full coverage of a key topic, so just look up what you need and start clicking! The task at hand, from simply starting Windows 98 to actually creating Web pages is clearly illustrated with step-by-step screenshots and 3D drawings. Instructions are clear and concise and red connection lines point right to where the action takes place on the screen. All the basics of Windows 98 are covered. Other chapters include:
  • Create Documents
  • Create Pictures
  • View Files
  • Work with Files
  • Customize Windows
  • Have Fun with Windows
  • Optimize Your Computer
  • Work on a Network
  • Browse the Web
  • Exchange Electronic Mail
  • Using Newsgroups
  • Create Web Pages
  • Work with Channels

Learning Windows was never more easy, more colorful, or more fun!
Library Journal
MaranGraphics takes the picture-book approach to introducing Windows 98. Simplified is for the total novice. It is very simple, completely illustrated, and very clear and belongs in all public library collections. Teach Yourself and the Visual Pocket Guide focus on Window basics, file management, customizing Windows, optimizing your computer, browsing the web, exchanging E-mail, and working with channels. Neither book is deep, but both are very effective for those new to Windows 98; Teach Yourself may be best for libraries because of its standard rather than "pocket" size. Master Windows 98 Visually combines the visual approach with a comprehensive reference approach, covering just about anything you can imagine short of programming. This complete visual reference, with lots of discussion, belongs in computer labs and behind reference desks as well as in the stacks. Over all, a very well done series.
