Overview

Jay Peterson lives in Minnesota with his artistic wife, Judy, and near the families of his three boys, Demian (and Jessica), Jesse (and Amy) and Jason. He has lived on Minnesota's Iron Range, working for Eveleth Taconite for 9 years, and in the outer suburbs of the Twin Cities area for decades. He has an educational background in heavy equipment maintenance and operation, communications, computer service, and electronics, and he has been a do-it-yourself home builder, auto mechanic, and heavy equipment operator. His parents, Arlen & Jeanne (Stouffer) were both poets and his youngest son, Jason, is a published and prize-winning poet. His father-in-law, Ernie Bumala, was a prodigious woodcarver, illustrator, and oil and watercolor artist. His mother-in-law, Lenore (Dreis) was an avid wooden toy and puzzle maker. Through his wife, an excellent oil and watercolor artist favoring traditional styles of natural subjects, these artistic traits have been passed to his children. Jay has worked in the taconite industry operating slurry filters, railcar loaders, balling mills, and mine haulage trucks. He hauled steel as a trucker for 13 years, and worked 9 years as a Central Office Technician for the phone company. He has worked as a chainsawyer, a building maintenance man, an auto parts salesperson, a test operator for prototype paving machines, and an hydraulic and pneumatic assembler for railcar machines that lift or grind the railroad tracks. This multi-faceted blue-collar, technological, and artistic background saturates the wide-ranging array of tales in this book. The author sincerely hopes the reader will enjoy the juxtaposition of the 'Git-'er-done' mentality with the subtle underlying romantic ideals that keep us all working and searching. . . and have a few laughs at the surprises!
