From The CriticsReviewer: Riad Barmada, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This book covers both arthroscopic and open surgical treatment of bone and soft tissue disorders of the hip.
Purpose: The purpose is to offer a reference for procedures used for treatment of pathological conditions of the hip and, in particular, the evolving arthroscopic hip surgery.
Audience: Orthopedic surgeons and other physicians and residents involved in the management of patients with hip pain are the intended audience.
Features: Section one is a review of open and arthroscopic procedures for various hip disorders, followed by an outline of surface anatomy, arthroscopic examination, imaging evaluation, and physical examination. Section two provides detailed descriptions of arthroscopic procedures used for soft tissues, cartilage, and bones to repair various hip pathological conditions. Section three is dedicated to open surgical procedures that include acetabular and proximal femoral osteotomy.
Assessment: This book covers both arthroscopic and open procedures that would be considered for management of hip disorders. It could be of help to treating physicians for a review of the available procedures that could be considered for a specific hip problem. It is well written with good quality graphic demonstrations, and includes a DVD and access to a web site with the full text and additional resources.
