Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This guide first provides a brief history of Christian iconography, traditions, and principles before laying out a detailed description of this highly specialized process. The author, an experienced European icon painter, addresses the reader as he might a serious apprentice, covering topics specific to iconography like gold leaf, portraying light, inscriptions, and special tempera varnishes. Practitioners of this type of art see it as intertwined with the spiritual; Weissmann emphasizes this throughout. VERDICT This book is essential for Christian college and university libraries and will have crossover appeal with religion sections in many community public libraries.
