Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - RevaBeth Russell
There are many areas of technology and this short, colorful book explains several of them. Each page is attractive and explains a technology with an engaging question, photos, a new vocabulary word with its explanation, and either an amazing factoid or science tidbit. Question such as "Why does a rubber band always spring back after being stretched?" or "Why do metal ships stay afloat?" are examples of the questions that will pull a reader in. The science of helicopters is explained; the history of tunnels is given. Do you know when the wheel was invented? Well, no one really knows, but wheels were invented in many places at different times. So if the Incas of Peru knew how to make wheels, why didn't they make carts? This is the book for the child that has moved on from basic questions such as ?why is the sky blue?' or ?how are rainbows made?' This is serious knowledge for the young mind. Students would be well served to have this series available in schools and libraries. Reviewer: RevaBeth Russell
