About the Author

Candy Torres views herself as an explorer and storyteller. She grew up hearing the stories of her parents who were born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Harlem during the Great Depression. She was born in Manhattan and grew up in a small New Jersey town. She wanted to be an astronaut so she joined Civil Air Patrol as a teenager. She learned how to fly an airplane before she learned to drive a car. Eventually, she earned her pilot’s license. Torres attended Douglass College at Rutgers University. Her first job was at Princeton University in the Astrophysics Department. In 1984 Torres moved to Houston to work at the NASA-Johnson Space Center. She has two Masters degrees from the University of Houston - Clear Lake. She is a writer and public speaker.
