Illustrator Michael Hague, who is known for such stellar works as The Velveteen Rabbit and The Wizard of Oz, turns his eye and his pen toward a longtime classic in Teddy Bears' Mother Goose. By tapping into such timeless favorites as "Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater," "Jack and Jill," "Little Tommy Tucker," "Jack Sprat," and "Little Miss Muffet," Hague brings a classic collection of whimsical rhymes and verses to life in a world populated by colorful, cuddly teddy bears. There are other critters who put in an appearance, too, including pigs, monkeys, dogs, cats, and a crooked little mouse.
Hague's exquisite drawings are a visual smorgasbord of color, texture, and personality, and his attention to detail makes the pages worthy of diligent study. With more than 30 nursery rhymes and both a table of contents and a first-line index, youngsters will be able to track down their favorites with ease. That, combined with Hague's pictorial feast, will make these timeless tales a household staple capable of providing hours of entertainment for generations of children to come. (Beth Amos)
