Editorial Reviews

Kirkus Reviews
An easy-to-read biography of Teddy Roosevelt in the Stories of Famous Americans series for young readers. All the familiar historical details are here: the sickly, near-sighted, asthmatic boy, the years of humiliation, his struggle to bulk up and fight back, and his eventual success as a man and president. Even the ubiquitous Teddy Bear makes a last-minute appearance. Teddy's stint with the Rough Riders is described in detail, but the events of his presidency are glossed over in one final paragraph. Large watercolor illustrations enliven the text. Though predictable and superficial, this is accessible to the earliest reader for the inevitable biography projects of early elementary years. (timeline) (Nonfiction. 6-8)
