Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Where do colored eggs come from? A teddy bear discovers the answer and helps the bunnies paint and hide the magical goodies in Teddy's Easter Secret. Giuliano Lunelli's soft-toned illustrations are a lovely accompaniment to Gerlinde Wiencirz's charming text. My favorite picture shows Teddy carefully tracking the rabbit as a big basket of eggs disappears over the hillside. 2001, North-South Books, $15.95 and $15.88. Ages 2 to 6. Reviewer: Mary Quattlebaum
School Library Journal
PreS-K-One night after Paul accidentally leaves his stuffed bear behind in the sandbox, Teddy witnesses a rabbit carrying a basket of eggs from the henhouse. He follows the animal, and is caught up in the magical secret of how eggs are prepared by lots of young rabbits before the Easter Bunny delivers them the next morning. Readers will enjoy knowing the secret that Paul does not. Lunelli makes good use of the white space by counterbalancing it with full pages of color. The unusual palette of shocking pinks and iridescent blues and greens contributes to the air of mystery in the story. Front endpapers show plain eggs; rear endpapers show them beautifully decorated. However, the awkward, tubelike legs on Teddy and the bunny he encounters give a jarring effect as if the critters would topple over as they walk. Nothing special here.-Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
