Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Anita Barnes Lowen
Make "cents" out of money with this no-nonsense guide to managing your dollars and cents. Ten exceptionally informative chapters cover a variety of money-related topics, including how to make it, spend it, budget it, invest it, and save it. Lots of practical suggestions on how to earn money are provided, as are helpful ideas for finding, getting and keeping a job. And once you have money in your pocket, what do you do next? Do you spend it or give it away? Or, as the author emphasizes over and over again, save it—and even put it to work? The "Making Your Money Grow" chapter has easy-to-understand explanations of savings accounts, saving bonds and the stock market. After you have read the book, use your newfound knowledge to take the final exam, using a worksheet to create your own financial plan. This book would be an excellent addition to any math curriculum that includes real-life skills. It is also one that savvy parents and kids should share. Reviewer: Anita Barnes Lowen
KLIATT - Sherri Ginsberg
This is a great little reference guide for teenage girls to peruse and learn about money matters. For the entrepreneurial soul, it lists jobs, what they entail, and what you should be charging for your services. There is advice on how to find a job, and how to be successful at the ever-important interview and how you should prepare for it. The part about savings is particularly good because it stresses short and long term goals and everyday saving tips. It explains how savings accounts work and other options such as ATM and debit cards. The enlightening section on stocks and how to read stock listings is probably the most pertinent part of the book. It even explains diversification simply. This is an important addition to any collection. Reviewer: Sherri Ginsberg
