Editorial Reviews

KLIATT - Sherri Ginsberg
The author is well known for writing magazine articles, and this guide reads as smoothly and is as fascinating as thumbing through a teen magazine. Blatt gives situations and then solutions, all accompanied by great graphics, and makes you feel like you are gaining a lot of valuable information. The quiz and word searches add a fun dimension to this guide to getting along. Reviewer: Sherri Ginsberg
Children's Literature
The success in getting through social situations for a teen girl is to remember that these are things every person goes through in some form, adults and teens alike. Such as confidence, learning to relax, how to make friends, and dating to name a few. This is a great book for every teen girl to read and these are a few examples of why I say this. “Social Survival” tells us that everyone is good at something. It may not be award-winning things or something that will make you a star, but every single person has a skill they do well. Next, how to handle being mad at your friend--these suggestions are good to take into consideration: Hear her out then pause and think about what she has said before answering. Know how to say you are sorry--this is something everyone has a hard time with. Do not talk in circles but explain your actions in a non-hurtful way, if possible. Learn from your mistakes and keep it between just the two of you. Next--sometimes other girls may grow up quicker than those around us and if you are one of the late bloomers, you could buy cute or funky bras as an answer to their sexy, lacy ones. A suggestion for another is to buy funny boy shorts and underpants with quirky sayings on them instead of thongs (they are uncomfortable anyway). Remember--everyone grows up in different ways and at different paces, but you will find it seems to even out in the end. Reviewer: Denise W. McGrain
