Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 7-9-Drawing from real-life incidents, Durrett examines where teens and the Constitution come together as she looks at case law and historical background to deconstruct the disconcerting world of legal disputes. These anecdotes provide ample opportunity to explore the implications of teen privacy issues in schools and make repeated references to the Fourth and Fifth Amendments. The final chapter is devoted to "Privacy in Cyberspace" with several useful rules of thumb for keeping safe online. Law being what it is, readers will probably be left with far more questions than answers. This title can be used to foster debate in class or to encourage critical thinking and further research. It also serves as a cautionary tale for students contemplating the right thing to do. Full-color photos and graphs (e.g., "Arrest Rates for Violent Crimes," "Juvenile Homicides by Weapon") are included.-Lisa Denton, J. S.
