Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 10 UpMoney, career choices, children, and the sharing of household chores are just a few of the myriad challenges in today's marriages. Teenage couples, however, have the added complication of their youth and immaturity in coping with the demands of the adult world. Lindsay approaches the subject in a positive, helpful manner, offering clear advice in a conversational tone and through straightforward language. She draws on extensive interviews she conducted with young people who are married or living with a partner and quotes them throughout to illustrate various points. Caring deals extensively with making a relationship last, using many of the same tips and techniques outlined in books for older married couples and focusing on endurance and commitment. Coping presents the day-to-day aspects of family life: shopping, finances, baby care, domestic duties, etc. Both books end with case studies, annotated bibliographies of related works, interviewee data, and questionnaires. For all teens even remotely thinking about serious relationships.Julie Halverstadt, Douglas Public Library District, Castle Rock, CO

This book basically explains how to build a healthy and successful relationship. Throughout the book topics such as marriage, keeping romance alive, abuse, effective communication, commitment, alcohol and drug use, trust, jealousy, and many others are discussed. I did not like this book because I'm not in a relationship or looking for advice from a book on how to supposedly have one. If someone does need specific relationship advice they may like the book, but I think that if a person needs relationship advice from a book that it is pathetic. People that have great relationships or people that are single would probably not particularly enjoy reading this book. So clearly I did not enjoy the book. There are many short stories talking about conflicts and how they can be resolved throughout and the book, and it is kind of boring. This should not be made into a movie because it just gives steps and guidelines to help relationships and would probably bore people to death. The writing style is very descriptive, but there is not much use of exquisite vocab. Overall I rate the book with one star; very poor because I did not enjoy it. It is not a book that I would recommend as a great read.
