Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 7-12-- The field of telecommunications has grown from the first radio experiments to television broadcasting in only a little more than 150 years. Lampton gives the history of these inventions, and describes in a general non-technical way how they work. The distinction between the functioning of analog and digital systems is important to the understanding of modern communications, and the clarity of the explanation alone is worth the price of this book. Black-and-white pen-and-ink drawings help readers to understand the text, but the black-and-white photographs add little. This book should be added to most collections, especially if little has been purchased in the last few years, as it contains new information in a rapidly changing field. --Margaret M. Hagel, Norfolk Public Library System, VA
