This book is about my life as a teenager growing up in Rhodesia during the 1970s. The book holds stories of hard and very difficult times, coping with the impact of the living in the era of aparthied and political unrest. I was a young girl, who loved the warm, sunny, beautiful African climate, but my life was not always fun and games. My schooling and general upbringing would be severely frowned upon these days, as I was taught by people who imposed racist and unhealthy views. Within these pages I recall my happy and care free youth, including the worst of times too, when I was betrayed by my best friend in the worst way possible. This book contains some adult content and is not suitable for young readers.

About the Author

I was born in 1961, in Glasgow, Scotland, my family moved to Southern Africa when I was five years old. While growing up, my parents were constantly on the move, in one year alone we moved 4 times and I went to 3 schools. This meant that I was always the new girl, at school, on the street or just a new face in the area. After a while this affected me quite a lot and I became more and more shy and, at times withdrawn. I was raised by very strict parents and my siblings and I soon realised that it was easier to conform and obey, than to face the wrath of my parents. I particularly enjoyed the time I spent in Rhodesia, prior to it being renamed Zimbabwe. I loved all things African and totally embraced the climate, culture and way of life. I also had some bad experiences there, sadly not from strangers, but those closest to me, as detailed in my book. I have changed the names of everyone in the book so that I am not naming anyone in particular. I've written this book because it is important for people to know that it's not only strangers that may pose a threat. I have fully recovered from my experiences and I look back on my childhood with complete fondness. I am now living in England with my husband and between us we have five children, and six grandchildren. I enjoy the closeness of my family and I have worked hard at making sure my children had a much more settled upbringing than I had.
