About the Author

Nacida en un pueblo de Tlaxcala, en 1938, Evangelina fue una niña sin recursos. Sus ocho hermanos se dedicaron a sembrar y a recoger frijol, haba, maíz, trigo, cebada y, los domingos, piedras para ayudar a su papá a levantar su casa, a unos 100 metros de una barranca. Doña Eva sabe lo que es la pobreza y no tiene una pizca de resentimiento. Después fue trabajaora domestica en una casa de Apizaco, de la que salió huyendo porque su patrón la perseguía y prefirió dejar todo antes que ser propiedad de ese señor. En el Distrito Federal también fue sirvienta hasta que por fin pudo volverse costurera y dominar a la perfección la overlock, “una máquina bonita que hace remates, cierra bien las costuras y las clausura”. A lo largo de los años aprendió a manejar la dobladilladora, la ojaladora y la botonadora, pero sobre todo a tener una vida verdaderamente cristiana.
