If you have ever walked through the woods in Michigan, New England, Wisconsin, or other similar regions, you have experienced the grandeur that a temperate forest represents. Temperate forests combine deciduous and conifer trees in a mosaic of life that incorporates a wide range of both flora and fauna. The world's temperate forests harbor biodiversity of enormous interest and potential. In this book author Michael Allaby delves into many aspects of this biome. As part of the "Biomes of the Earth" series this particular title combines a serious text with lavish illustrations to create a fact-filled science text. Within the pages of this informative book youngsters will learn about the changing seasons and how temperate forests respond to them. Sections of the book are dedicated to the ecosystems and life forms that coexist in the Earth's temperate forests. In addition the author does a fine job of detailing environmental threats such as acid rain, excessive logging, and other pollutants that work to harm the world's forests. In the end this book represents a well-written and interesting work that will enhance youngster's understanding of this important biome.
