Temptation in Texas: A Christmas Special
Excerpt: With the contractor gone from his house, Logan turned back to Lauren, who was avoiding eye contact with him as she wiped the dust from her hands onto the back of her blue jean shorts. Shorts, for god’s sake . . . which she’d probably put on that morning, not giving a single thought to the strange man she was about to let enter the house. This just kept getting worse and worse; he felt his temperature kick up another notch as disbelief at her actions held him in its grip. Jesus Christ, did she have to have such a trusting nature? Would she never learn? Did she think the world was one huge, safe playground? Somewhere in the furthest recesses of his mind, the knowledge that he wasn’t giving her enough credit entered his head; his wife was incredibly brilliant and capable, but he refused to allow the thought to soothe him. He was angry, probably more angry than he’d ever been in his life, and the reason was because she had scared him half-to-freaking-death, and that was the only thing he could concentrate on at the moment.
While he held himself still, trying to breathe evenly, trying to get his raging emotions under control, he ran his gaze over her, up and down, just to make sure she was all in one piece.
Her tongue shot out to lick her lips and despite his anger, he felt a bolt of white-hot lightning pierce his guts. He could clearly see that she knew he was angry; her lips quivered before she spoke. “Hi, babe . . . you’re home early.”
Ahhh…so his little wife was feeling a bit apprehensive at this point and well she should be. His lips flattened as he took a single step toward her. “Sure am. What ‘ya doing, hon?” he spoke the words way too innocuously, allowing his tone to ring with sarcasm.
“N-nothing.”
He took another two steps forward and she quickly stepped back, bumping the back of her head on the slanted beam behind her. He winced for her and came to a halt; no matter how furious he was, he didn’t want her to hurt herself. “It didn’t look like ‘nothing’, babe,” he replied slowly.
“No, it’s just the . . . just the—” her words trailed off as she motioned behind her toward where she’d been on the floor only moments ago.
Logan didn’t take his eyes from her to see what she might be indicating. “Just the what?”
She shook her head, as if she had no idea what to say.
He took a deep breath and blew it out. “Lauren. Come here.”
She glanced away before looking back at him. “No, I’m good.”
At her denial, he felt his insides electrify with aggression, but he attempted to keep a cool head, even as the heated blood roaring through his veins reminded him he was on a short leash. “Come here, baby.”
She licked her lips. “Are you mad?”
He took another slow, deep breath. Yeah, he was mad. “Why would I be mad?” he asked a little too sarcastically as he placed his hands on the rafter above his head, feeling his biceps bulge against the short-sleeve t-shirt he was wearing.

Meet the Author

Always a fan of romantic fiction, I've always been in love with the alpha-male. So in love, I've never been quite satisfied with the restrictions of series romance. I like to get into a guy's mind and have him do or say exactly what he's feeling at the moment, and sometimes I shock even myself! I consider my stories soft erotica; one man, one woman, heterosexual. But since abiding love is always the happy ending I'm looking for, my couples are always monogamous. My guy would never share his woman with anyone, and she is always enough to satisfy him. Since I believe that love starts with lust, my stories are always highly sexual, explicit in nature, and hopefully totally satisfying to my readers. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.

I hated Logan's MAN character , & Lauren is one step away from being a statistic. a toxic relationship and sex. that is all this 29 pg story has to offer

This book was not about love it wasn't even about sex. This book was about control. Logan treated Lauren like a possession. He exhibited all of the signs of sn abusive man. I normally love this authors books because of the alpha males but this one went too far.

Although I generaly enjoy this author I did not enjoy this book. Luke is borderline abusive. He had a LOT of rules that Lauren had to follow for her "safety". She couldn't answer the door if she didn't know who it was. He threatened to take her with him when he went out of town on business to keep her safe. Control and isolation classic signs of abuse. All because he LOVED her.

Although a very short read it was great! I loved their story in the full length novel also (check it out for yourself first). What can you say--- when deep down you know you crave a strong alpha male lead over these lukewarm wannabes! Laurel is strong enough to soothe the savagery of Logan... two opposites, with a strong middle ground, which equates to a hot romance. Ms. Chance write women character who recognize the strength in a man without trying to conform him. There is absolutely any weakness in that. These are the characters tha Ms. Chance writes about, and i love each and everyone one of her books!!!!! Keep up the great work and never conformnyour writing styles! It's what set you apart!!!!! I ccannot wait for your next book!!!!! aka Rebelv 9/17/2016

## I loved Logan and Laura's first book. But this follow up is ridiculous. I love an alpha male hero who adores his woman and spouts: "mine". But in a loving way, not a controlling jerk. This relationship will definitely turn into a domestic violence statistic. Too far overboard Ms. Chance.

No woman should put up with this male character. Domestic violence should not be romanticized as love. It was violent and angry sex. She knew he would never harm her intentionally????? Seriously? Every abused woman says the same thing. Every abuser feels the same ugly, insane, controlling rage that occurs when his "instructions" are not followed. A man like this character can snap for any reason at any time. I have not read any other books by this author and I probably will not. I can't imagine how an abused woman would feel to read this short story. No excuse for writing this 23 page story. Can't go lower than 1 star unfortunately.

Did not like this book

This book started on page 2 and ended on page 25. Lauren had an overprotected husband. She was trying to make their attic into a man cave for the husband. I really enjoyed reading this novel very much. ShelleyMA

Would suggest that Ms. Chance review current literature on abuse. Glorifying behaviors associated with it or presenting them as a facet of love is not good form.

Awful story, free or not, this totally ruins Logan. He was an alpha male in his main story and that was sexy. This is just crap.

Free but not worth it. More like abuse and control than love.

I love this author and never miss a book she writes

This is awful. Nothing sexy or romantic about this unequal, abusive relationship. Unfortunate that zero stars is not an option.

35 pages. Not much of a story.

A 25 well-written free short tale of a very very hard core alpha male obsessed with his wife, who happens to like/love his anger issues, especially since as it leads to sex. Adult language and very explicit sex. There is also an excerpt for another of her alpha men stories. And to the previous commenter: no one, especially a woman or child, should open a door without knowing who is on the other side of it. It's called common sense in any world.

I have always loved all of lyndas books but this is short, boring and pointless. No love story or romance...nothing but a controlling man overpowering a woman...i could have read this in a newspaper about abuse...there wasnt .wven an end of any sort

Creepy. I couldn't finish reading it because I was so uncomfortable witnessing Logan bullying, controlling, and terrifying his wife. This was not a love story. This was not "hot". It was scary and abusive. I've a Lynda Chance fan, but this book takes her name off my list.
