    Tempting Fate by Alissa Johnson

Whittaker, the Earl of Thurston and Miss Mirabelle Browning haven't said a kind word toward each other since they were children. The Dowager countess, now tired of their snipping has gotten both to agree to a truce for one week. During his mother's house party Whit has young ladies vying for his attention, but he doesn't have eyes for anyone but Mirabelle. Mirabelle sees a different side to Whit; after he gives her, her first kiss. Soon she must go to live one week with her uncle, which she dreads.

I really loved this book. I believe the characters were really well developed. It's a sequel to As Luck Would Have It, but it can and did stand-alone.

Alissa Johnson is a fantastic new talent!

Whit and Mirabelle are perfectly matched. From page one, I was pulled straight into their battle of "wits". I read along enjoying every fine detail Ms. Johnson threaded through the story. Her particular attention to characterization and strong voice made the book a true treasure.

    I Also Recommend:

    Tempting Fate by Alissa Johnson

I very much enjoyed reading "Tempting Fate" by Alissa Johnson. The tenor of this story is light as air, with a healthy dose of sexual tension around the main characters that we can see from the beginning are perfect for each other...if they could just quit arguing.

Mira was left an orphan when her parents died, and their will placed her under the care of a distant relative who turned out to be a thorough rotter! But as luck would have it, she literally fell into the company of a similarly aged girl on a neighboring estate and ended up spending most of her time there, an honorary member of the family. Over the years, she's gotten plenty of enjoyment from teasing, fighting, and insulting the oldest brother and heir Whittaker. Now if she can just hold for two more years, she'll be out from under the heel of her nasty relative.

Whit is handsome, rich, and quite a catch. If he could only stomach the simpering girls of the ton, he'd be a much happier man. Well, that and if he could quit letting Mira get the best of him. With his mother's house party in jeopardy, she extracts a promise from Whit and Mira to be 'nice' to each other and on their best behavior. Imagine their surprise when, with no insults to banter, they discover something a bit more...

I enjoyed "Tempting Fate" so much that I just ordered Alissa Johnson's first book "As Luck Would Have It". This story is not a serious, dramatic one. Rather it's hugely comical, with lightning-quick repartee and hot sexual tension. A perfect afternoon break for a smile and a laugh.

    enjoyable lighthearted historical

When Whittaker Cole and Mirabelle Browning were children their constant bickering looked cute to the adults amused by them. Each understood even as youngsters, their arguments were not endearing; instead they hated one another. Neighbors once again, their preadolescent antagonism has not abated one iota as they still detest one another.

Mirabelle insists she would never be attracted to the handsome Earl who is considered prime meat (and real estate) on the Marriage Mart. Whit insists he would never be attracted to the hellion next door who broke his nose. Their families believe they make a perfect couple and when they kiss neither can pull back; leaving both to wonder how could a lifetime of fighting lead to love.

The amusing sequel to the charming espionage Regency romance AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT is somewhat different in tone as there is no spying yet shares in common as an enjoyable lighthearted historical due to the antics of the cast. The lead couple is either kissing or arguing while the support cast plays matchmakers. Fans will relish this fabulous romp as the laughs keep on coming as does the romance.

    Worth your time

A historical romance with really engaging characters, original story line and sharp wit, this book is well written and just plain fun to read. I enjoyed the camaraderie with the main characters from the last book and laughed out loud at the dialog between the feuding hero and heroine. In fact the humor sparkles and there are a couple zingers in here worth saving to use on your ex! I look forward to this author's next book.
