Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2—In this rhyming counting book, text accompanies full-spread illustrations of woodland animals as they make wishes on the stars in the evening sky. The reflective stars shine when the book is held at a certain angle. Mouse makes the first wish, followed by Rabbit, Squirrel, Hedgehog, Bear, and Badger. The tale ends with "Ten Christmas stars are shining bright,/The last star is for you,/So close your eyes and make a wish,/May all your dreams come true!" A simple, sweet addition for counting collections.—Diane Olivo-Posner, Los Angeles Public Library
Kirkus Reviews

The cover of this sweet, rhyming story shows three forest animals gazing up at ten shiny stars and the title phrase, which stand out against a deep blue sky with a metallic foil effect. The stars reappear in the illustrations in count-them-up fashion, and baby-animal characters make wishes on each new star in turn. The composition of the cast of characters is confusing, as there are two mice and two bears making wishes on separate pages, and it's not immediately apparent that these pairs are different critters. The little animals wish for simple things such as snow, family visits and stories from Mom as well as presents to share. The large format, charming creatures and sparkly stars add up to an attractive holiday offering, though not a shining star in a crowded sky. (Picture book. 3-6)
