The McGRAW-HILL SPOTLIGHT! SERIES of Plays for the ESOL Classroom is a collection of four titles that non-native speakers can either perform as plays in class or can read for practice and culture. These brief and inexpensive titles are ideal supplements to any intermediate Reading,Speaking,or Conversation class. A variety of pre- and post-reading exercises and activities have been included in each play to facilitate its use as a supplemental reading text. Each of the four plays is adapted from authentic often well-known sources but rewritten to be accessible to non-native speakers. The first play,The Wall,is based on the chapter of ""The Great Whitewasher"" from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The second play,Ten Thousand Baskets, comes from a short story,Assembly Line, written by B. Traven, the author of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Shakespeare's. The Taming of the Shrew is the basis for the third play,The Cowboy and the Wildcat. The fourth play is entitled The Necklace and is based on the short story of the same name by Guy de Maupassant.
