Church aims to get readers up and moving with action-driven rhymes and a fuzzyheaded toddler who, along with his teddy bear, is happy to provide a demonstration. “Touch your toes,/ bend down low./ Touch your legs,/ up you go,” writes Church as boy and bear, drawn in her characteristic cartoon style, stand facing each other, smiling as they upright themselves. “Mouth, ears,/ eyes, nose,/ arms, belly, legs,/ ten tiny toes,” reads the book’s refrain. Brightly colored, lightly speckled back-drops keep the focus on this affectionate, rosy-cheeked twosome as they take readers on an enthusiastic tour of the body’s capabilities. Ages 3–up. (Jan.)

Children's Literature - Sheilah Egan
This padded board book has a darling toddler and a teddy bear on the front cover. From “mouth, ears, eyes, nose, arms, belly, legs,” to “ten tiny toes,” readers and listeners get to follow the little one as she/he discovers and discusses body parts. My granddaughter loves the “Touch your belly, laugh and giggle” page because we act out each action as we enjoy the cheerful, simple illustrations. The rhymes are easy to recognize: wiggle and giggle, wide and side, nose and toes, low and go, and so on. The teddy tries to do everything the child does but is obviously surprised by the child’s big sneeze “Achoooo!” On the last page, the toddler is seen hugging the bear with “a love that grows and grows.” This title is slightly larger than the typical board book and will be easy to share with groups. Of course, the reader will encourage everyone to participate as the book progresses. Little ones will adore acting out the sneeze! Expect demands to read this one over and over. Reviewer: Sheilah Egan; Ages 1 to 3.

A playful exploration of the body for the littlest learners. This deceptively simple offering engages toddlers by asking them to participate in the fun by identifying various parts of their bodies and moving them about: "Touch your ears, make them wiggle. / Touch your belly, laugh and giggle. // Touch your mouth, open wide. / Touch your arms, wave side to side." Periodically, the action is interrupted by a catalog of body parts in the form of a catchy refrain: "Mouth, ears, eyes, nose, // arms, belly, legs, / and ten tiny toes!" The brief, lyrical text, the opportunities for interactivity and the focus on a subject dear to toddlers' hearts—themselves and all their glorious parts—make this a candidate for repeat readings. The illustrations feature a happy, shaggy-haired Caucasian toddler and his little teddy bear. The backgrounds are kept simple, focusing readers' attention on the little one as he explores his body as the text directs. In a sweet conclusion, the toddler embraces his teddy, no body part to highlight here—only "a love that grows and grows."Great fun for one-on-one sharing and a perfect toddler storytime selection.
